Grammer certainly brings the New York sound down South! When I first heard his tracks it took me back to when Hip Hop was Hip Hop! His lyricism is unparalleled and you will see exactly what I mean on his single OTGodFLow!

Grammer grew up in Scotland Neck NC until the age of 13. He moved up to Staten Island NY where he spent his high school years. Once he finished up school he moved back to NC and settled in Charlotte.

He was exposed to soul music, blues, r&b and the golden era of Hip Hop which all helped shape his style. Some of his music influences consist of Jay Z, Nas, Biggie, TI, and Outkast which certainly could be where his strong lyricism comes from.

How would you describe your style? My style is song driven with a lyrical format. I have to say something when I rap and leave some kind of message.

What are the main inspirations for the lyrics you write and what separates you from today’s rappers? I try to show the other side of the spectrum meaning I talk about a lot of things most rappers don’t. I talk about what I seen or did the good and the bad.

What other artist have you collaborated with and what would be your dream venue to perform? Tystatz, Derty Den, J Manifest, Numeral 3, Emerald Sarter, Jus K, Razi, Natstar, and DJ Absolute. I would love to perform in Madison Square Garden and the Charlotte Hornets Arena in NC. I’m a Carolina boy at heart but ultimately my goal is to perform in Africa.

With your lyrical talent and accolades such as the winner of the 2017 Rock The Mic Showcase you might want to make sure that passport is up to date! Might just get to do that performance in Africa sooner than you think!

Crush Hayven

The Carolina’s are filled with so much talent and that certainly includes music producers as well. Crush Hayven of Hickory, NC has already worked with an impressive list of artists and with his talents he certainly will have no problem adding to it! Check out Boosie Badazz I’m Bad produced by Crush!

When I asked who he has worked with he laid out an impressive list: Boosie Badazz, Young Scooter, Project Pat, lil durk,Flippa, Shawty Lo(R.I.P.), Ralo, Freebandz, FYB(Rich Gang, Nessly, & I’ve collabed with Staccthegreatest (808 Godz producers, for Migos Culture 2), Doe Skool, slayer tracks, Tezo, Chris Nasty, Kez Gone, RelloWitdaBeats, TrealDropDat, Purp Cyph…ah man forgive me if I’m forgetting anyone I’ve just been grinding but I have definitely worked with a lot of talent.

How would you describe your style? Versatile. Everybody says it but I am. I love music, my beats are like my mood. Some days I might be in a mood for some soul music, then wake up wanting to listen to, trap, then rock, etc.  Plus I like to build from the artist, the better I know you, the better the beats in my opinion. I might know the right sound that you need in your beats to really bring out your verse. You might not like a lot of sounds you know?

What is your musical background? My grandparents were in a band in the 70s along with many uncles, relatives. My mother, aunt & grandparents sing in church choirs. My grandfather, pretty much introduced me to funk & soul. From Parliament, James Brown, to Temptations, Ohio Players, Gap Band & Zapp & Roger. My mama & aunt, introduced me to everything in between. They introduced me to, the British invasion, Elton John, Phil Collins, etc. My aunt really was the one to expose me to hip hop, & neo-soul. From Wu-Tang, Tribe Called Quest to Jimi Hendrix and Bob Marley.. My family as a whole really exposed me to everything.

Who would be a dream artist you would like to work with? Future, James Blake, Kendrick Lamar, Andre 3000, Gucci Mane, DaBaby

With his versatility and knowledge of such a broad spectrum of music the future is bright for Crush Hayven. Artist out there looking for a beat look no further “Every Beat I Make I Crush Boy”!

Austin Royale – AU$X

Ran across this track Problems by Austin Royale featuring J.K. The Reaper and Goon Des Garcons a few weeks back! I spent the rest of the day digging through their soundcloud accounts because you could tell they had something unique!

Austin Royale was born and bred in Durham, NC. He is not only an artist but a producer and engineer as well. I asked him about some of his favorite venues and you could see him light up!

Cat’s Cradle, where I had one of my biggest shows opening for Denzel Curry. A lot of dope memories there, getting invited to various shows as well as a guest and meeting Joey Bada$$, Boogie, etc. Has been the local home to so much greatness.
The Roxy (LA) Really music lovers know.
The Observatory (Orange County) I love their stage and their turn-outs, kids really rage there. Got to see a few homies do their thing but I never rocked the mic there though.
